How to choose marine light fixtures with right protection class
Overview
The protection classes of ship lighting can generally be divided into four categories: protective type, moisture-proof type, water-proof type, and explosion-proof type.
Protective type: This type of lamps are usually used in dry cabins, such as crew and passenger cabins, lounges, restaurants, steering room, news rooms, etc. The protection class is IP2x. Common lamps include cabin ceiling lamps, bedside lamps, reading lamps, chart lamps, wall lamps, etc.
Moisture-proof type: This type of lamp is suitable for places with large moisture, such as walkways, kitchens, laundry rooms, etc., and the protection level is IP3x-IP4x. Common lights include corner lights, mirror lights, indicator lights, etc.
Water-proof type: This type of lamp is used in places with water droplets, splashing water, and condensed water, such as furnace rooms, dry cargo warehouses, shaft tunnels, pipe tunnels, open-air decks, etc. The protection level is IP5x-IP6x. Including: navigation signal lights, spot lights, warehouse lights, grid lights, and work lights.
Explosion-proof type: Explosion-proof lamps are used in areas where flammable and explosive gases may accumulate and related hazardous areas, and have the best sealing performance. It is used in cabins containing flammable objects and explosive gases, such as battery rooms, paint storage rooms, oil purifier rooms and other places where electrical equipment is used. Most common type is LED explosion-proof light.
