Overview
The marine shaft system is an important component of the ship's propulsion system and is the main transmission mechanism in the ship's propulsion system (main engine, transmission mechanism, propeller) (as shown in the figure)
1. Concept of marine shaft system:
It is a transmission shaft that is connected to one end of the main engine output shaft and the other end to the propeller. A shaft system device is a general term for a system composed of several shafts, bearings, and other accessories.
2. The function of the shaft system:
It is to transfer the power emitted by the main engine to the propeller, causing it to rotate, and to transmit the thrust generated by the propeller (i.e. the reaction force given by the water to the propeller when the propeller rotates in water to do work) to the ship through its series of devices, to make the ship move forward or backwards and ensure its normal navigation. Therefore, the ship's shaft system is an important component of the ship's propulsion system.
3. Requirements for shaft system:
To meet the requirements of modern ships and ensure that the shaft system can work reliably under various navigation conditions and harsh conditions, the shaft system device should have sufficient strength and stiffness. And it is required to have lightweight, small in size, with high transmission power, high efficiency, and convenient to maintenance.
