Marine Anchor Capstan
A marine anchor capstan is a robust, vertical-axle winch on a ship or boat's deck used to haul in or let out the anchor and chain, providing mechanical advantage for anchoring and mooring; it features a rotating drum, a gypsy (sprocket) for the chain, and can be manually or electrically/hydraulically powered, ensuring precise control and secure vessel positioning. With the help of the brake and clutch, the gypsy and capstan head can work independently. It is similar in operation to a windlass.
