How to Use Airbags for Ship Launching

Ships are launched by airbags, which can be launched vertically or horizontally according to different ship types. The use of airbags is different when launching in different ways.

Overview

1. Longitudinal Launching:

When a ship is launched longitudinally, there are three ways to arrange airbags: single row arrangement, staggered arrangement and docking arrangement, and the arrangement mode should be determined according to the width of the ship and the length of airbags.

a. When the width of the ship is less than or equal to the effective length of the airbag, the single-row arrangement is adopted. Most ships are upgrading and launched in this way.

b. When the width of the ship is greater than the length of one airbag and less than or equal to the length of two airbags, staggered arrangement is adopted.

c. When the width of the ship is greater than the length of two airbags, or catamarans, bottom barges and other ships use airbags to launch, airbags can be arranged in a double row, and the gap between the ends of the two airbags should be more than 0.2m.

2. Lateral Launching:

The horizontal launching method can be adopted for small flat-bottomed ships with wide ships and sufficient length at the bow and bottom. When the ship is launched laterally, it is advisable to use the same type, same diameter and same length of airbags. Airbags are divided into two groups, which are placed under the bottom of the bow and stern, with the same spacing, and there should be a gap of more than 1m at the end of the airbag, but it should not be more than one tenth of the length of the hull. The towing cable shall be fixed at the midpoint of two groups of airbags and perpendicular to the hull.
