Bronze Check Valves
Bronze check valves are automatic valves. When the medium flows from the inlet to the outlet, fluid pressure pushes the valve disc (closing element) open to form a passage. When the medium attempts to flow in reverse, the combined force of fluid pressure and the valve disc's own weight (or spring force, etc.) causes the valve disc to rapidly return to its seat and tightly seal against the valve seat sealing surface. This action cuts off the flow path and prevents backflow.

There are different types of bronze check valves, including swing check valves, lift check valves, and ball check valves. Each type operates slightly differently but serves the same basic function of preventing backflow.
