Single gypsy anchor windlass:

The single gypsy anchor windlass is the simplest type, with only one anchor chain wheel/gypsy/sprocket used for retracting and releasing anchor chains.

It consists of a sprocket and an anchor chain, which is lowered or retracted through electric/hydraulic/diesel operation. Double gypsy anchor windlass:

The double gypsy anchor windlass has two independent anchor chain wheels/gypsy/sprocket, each of which is used to control one anchor chain.

Suitable for larger ships or situations that require more secure berthing. It consists of two sprockets/gypsy/chain wheel and two anchor chains, which can provide greater traction and stability. Double gypsy anchor machines are usually equipped with an electric operating system for more convenient operation.

Combination anchor windlass:

Combination anchor windlass, also called the combination winch, is a mechanical device used on composed of the chain wheel and the drum, which can be used as an anchor windlass for anchoring and as a winch for mooring. In order to save space and cost, the anchor windlass and winch in modern ships often adopt a combination design.

Suitable for large ships or situations where ships need to dock for a long time.

According to the size, operation requirements, berthing time, traction requirements, safety requirements and available ship space, the suitable type of windlass can be selected to ensure the safe docking and navigation of the ship. Different types of windlasses have their own advantages and applicable scenarios, and ship designers and shipowners need to make choices according to specific conditions.
