Technical Requirements and Inspection for Ball-Type Air Vents
Ball vents are used in mechanical ventilation and air conditioning systems for various types of ship compartments. Their primary function is to enable efficient, directional airflow delivery within the air conditioning system under specific environmental conditions. Installation typically involves mounting them on the side walls of square or round ventilation ducts using bolts or rivets
Overview
1. Technical Requirements
1.1 The ball surface shall be manufactured as a seamless, integral piece. Where process constraints necessitate welding, weld seams must be ground smooth.
1.2 The gasket of the spherical vent must be securely bonded to both the inner and outer balls. The ball assembly shall rotate freely within the ball holder without self-collapsing.
1.3 The tongue plate shall open and close smoothly and freely.
1.4 All metal components of the spherical air outlet must undergo surface treatment:
A. Rust-proof aluminum parts shall be anodized and polished per CB*/Z92-81 <Anodic Oxidation Treatment of Aluminum Alloys>.
B. Brass parts shall be plated with decorative chrome per CB*745-83 <Principles for Selecting Electroplating and Chemical Coatings>.
1.5 Materials for the main components of the ball shaped air vents are as per Table 1.
Part Name | Material | ||
Name | Grade | Standard | |
Body, Outer Ball Cup, Inner Ball Cup,Baffle | Rust-proof aluminum | LF2 | GB 3190-82 |
Brass | H62 | YB 46-71 | |

2. Inspection Rules
2.1 Ball vents shall undergo inspection by the manufacturer's technical inspection department: The manufacturer shall ensure that products leaving the factory comply with the requirements of this standard, and each batch of products shall be accompanied by a certificate of conformity.
2.2 Acceptance testing shall be conducted at the factory by the ordering party in conjunction with the manufacturer's technical inspection department. If agreed by the ordering party, acceptance may be performed solely by the manufacturer's technical inspection department.
2.3 Acceptance Testing
Sample 5% (no fewer than 5 units) from the batch for inspection. Acceptance shall be conducted according to technical requirements based on the specific spherical diffuser model.
3. Marking, Packaging, Transportation, and Storage
3.1 Spherical diffuser products shall bear the following permanent markings on a prominent location:
a. Standard number
b. Manufacturer's name, nominal diameter, and identification mark
c. Inspection pass stamp
3.2 Ball air vents shall be packed in boxes with a gross weight not exceeding 25 kg per box. The exterior of each box shall be marked with the following information:
a. Product name, model, and standard number
b. Manufacturer's identification mark
c. Number of spherical air outlets in the box
d. Box weight in kg
