What Is The Difference Between Standard Loop Sling And Thimble Loop Sling?

A thimble loop sling features a reinforced eye loop protected by a thimble, designed to increase durability and prevent wear from sharp edges or corners. Standard loop sling are suitable for round surfaces, not square edges.

Overview

Standard loop slings

Standard loop slings also known as soft loop slings. They omit thimbles. The eye size of standard loop sling is generally 15 to 20 times the diameter of the wire rope. Generally speaking, the larger the diameter of the wire rope, the larger the soft eye.

These loops are meant for round surfaces, not square edges. They are suitable for sliding over round pipes.

However, if a standard loop used on a flat bar or angle iron can concentrate the load to a sharp edge or point, potentially causing standard loop's damage. Similarly, forcing the bearing point of a standard loop into a tight bend radius can also damage the loop's bearing points.

A thimble loop sling features a reinforced eye loop protected by a thimble, designed to increase durability and prevent wear from sharp edges or corners.

When loop slings are subjected to rigorous or continuous movements, we should use thimble loop sling to ensure that the rope's integrity remains uncompromised over time.

Moreover, when loop sling connect on a flat bar or angle iron, thimble loop sling is more suitable than standdard loop sling. Wire rope thimbles against the wear and tear that ropes undergo. Wire rope thimbles help maintain the rope's natural shape and avoid deformation.
