Marine Retractable Azimuth Thruster
The marine retractable azimuth thruster is designed to provide better manoeuvring capabilities that extend the operational weather window of the vessels and ships, increasing capacity, flexibility, productivity and safety. There are three types of installation including the inclined type, well type, and deck installation. The incline type is suitable for passenger ships, inland vessels and coastal vessels. The well type installation can be applied on tugboats, survey ships and so on.

Overview
The marine retractable azimuth thruster can change the depth of propeller, which can meet the requirements of the ships' different draft. The azimuth thruster has retractable function. Under the retractable mechanism, the propeller drop to the lowest position during using. After starting the power, the propeller rotates to generate thrust. When it is not in use, the propeller rise to a certain height above the base line of hull to protect the azimuth thruster in case of ship grounding. The retractable mechanism is telescopic by the hydraulic cylinder to drive the azimuth thruster up and down. Moreover, the guide rail is used to increase the stability of the azimuth thruster during the lifting process. The guide rail can also increase the rigidity of the lower part of the azimuth thruster when the propeller generates thrust, which is conducive to the thrust transfer of the propeller to the hull.
The retractable thruster employ a vertical retraction system to minimize the space requirements of the vessel. When not in operation, the marine retractable azimuth thruster provide the enhanced manoeuvring capability of an azimuth thruster while adding no draught or running resistance to the vessel. It features improved manoeuvring and DP capability, combined steering and propulsion at low speed, and minimal draft and hydrodynamic resistance.
