Marine Electric Single Gypsy Anchor Windlass
An electric single gypsy anchor windlass is a piece of marine equipment used to raise and lower an anchor on a boat or ship. It contains only one chain wheel as well as gearbox and brake section, and it is driven by an electric motor. The electric motor decelerates its speed by reduction gearbox, and then drives the shaft to rotate. Thus the windlass can work. It is often applied on ships of small and medium size.
Overview
The electric single gypsy anchor windlass is widely used on ships to handle anchoring. It provides the mechanical advantage necessary to lift and lower heavy anchor gear efficiently, enhancing safety and convenience during anchoring operations. The electric motor can be classified into the variable frequency motor and the fixed frequency motor. The fixed frequency can achieve single, double, and three speeds. When the machine is lifting the anchor, the clutch is turned on and brake released, so that the shaft can drive the sprocket to rotate and pull the anchor back. When it is dropping anchoring, the clutch is separated from the sprocket, and the anchor connected with the anchor chains can be the thrown out into the deep sea. Equipped with an electric motor and gearbox, the speed can be adjusted in case the working speed is out of control.
