Deck Scupper
Overview
The main role of the deck scupper
1. Discharge of domestic sewage. There is not enough storage space on board, and it is discharged directly into the sea for easy disposal.
2. Maintain ship balance. Before the ship goes to sea, a large amount of water is stored at the bottom of the cabin to increase the counterweight and ensure smooth sailing. Especially when the weather at sea is bad and the wind and waves are relatively large. Ballast water needs to be filled to prevent the boat from capsizing. When the weather is clear and the ship needs to move quickly, the ballast water needs to be discharged.
3. Slow down the sinking rate of the hull. In the event of damage, the compartment design can slow down the rate of flooding and buy time for rescue.
4. Discharge cooling water. Used to cool the ship's mechanical systems, such as engines and boilers, this water is discharged through scuppers after use. In addition, the scuppers also help to discharge sewage and stagnant water on the deck.
