Classification of Fire Tube Boilers

Classification of Fire Tube Boilers

This article will introduce several common classification of fire tube boiler. These include Cochran boilers, locomotive boilers and Lancashire boilers.

Overview

Cochrane boiler:

In which coal or gas is used as a working fluid to produce steam, steam is further used for a variety of purposes. It is a multi-tube vertical fire tube boiler with many horizontal fire tubes. In Cochrane boilers, the heating surface is added through a fire tube, which helps to achieve higher efficiency than a simple vertical boiler.

Locomotive boiler:

multi-tube horizontal internal combustion boiler.Boiler horizontal arrangement, multiple tubes.Internal combustion occurs and water circulates naturally. The locomotive boiler operates the same as the Cochrane boiler, but the construction is different. (Due to natural circulation and internal combustion, it is considered a fire tube boiler)

Lancashire boiler:

a horizontal boiler and an internal combustion boiler, because the furnace is used to present inside the boiler. It is a natural circulation boiler that produces low pressure steam. High thermal efficiency, about 80%-90%. The size of the boiler is about 7-9 meters long and 2-3 meters in diameter. Lancashire boilers have the advantage of being more reliable, easier to operate, and less cleaning and maintenance work, but the disadvantage is that they require more space, require a lot of time to produce steam, and cannot produce high-pressure steam.
