Components of Wire Rope
Wire:
Wire (round or shaped) is made of carbon steel or alloy steel by cold drawing or cold rolling, with high strength and toughness. Wires constitute the individual strands of the wire rope. The surface treatment of the wire is different according to the use of environmental conditions. Usually wires are bright or uncoated. The performance of steel wire rope to load is mainly determined by steel wire.
Strand
Strands normally consisting of an assembly of wires of appropriate shape and dimensions laid helically in the same direction in one or more layers around a centre. Strands containing three or four wires in the first layer, or certain shaped strands (e.g. ribbon), might not have a centre.
Core
Central element of a round rope around which are laid helically the strands of a stranded rope or the unit ropes of a cable laid rope. The core is divided into fiber core(NFC or SFC), steel core(WSC or IWRC) and solid polymer core.
Selection of Wire rope:
The selection of wire rope must be based on the requirements of the equipment's technical data. When choosing the strength grade of the wire rope, technical parameters such as the load, safety factor, and utilization grade of the lifting machinery should be considered. It is not advisable to blindly pursue high strength and high tensile strength, in order to avoid achieving the opposite effect of the intended use.
