Starting test of marine diesel generator set

Starting test of marine diesel generator set

The diesel generator set provides power for the entire ship and is divided into two types: the main generator set and the emergency generator set. The generator set consists of two parts: a prime mover (such as a diesel engine) and a generator. Conduct tests using the starting equipment equipped on board the ship (usually air starting, but also battery starting). During the experiment, start the cold diesel unit to verify its flexibility, start time, and start frequency.

Overview

Test content

Conduct tests using the starting equipment equipped on board the ship (usually air starting, but also battery starting). During the experiment, start the cold diesel unit to verify its flexibility, start time, and start frequency.

Preparation work

(1) Ensure the safety and good ventilation of the surrounding environment of the generator set.

(2) Check the fuel supply to ensure there is sufficient diesel supply.

(3) Check the level and quality of cooling water and lubricating oil.

Ensure that all operators are aware of the startup procedures and safety precautions.

Pre-startup check

(1) Check all control switches and instruments to ensure everything is normal.

(2) Check the mechanical components of the generator set to ensure that there are no abnormalities or damage.

(3) Ensure that the generator set is in a safe state and free from any hazards or obstacles.

Test requirements

(1) Diesel engine started with compressed air: inflate one auxiliary air cylinder to the rated working pressure, and start the cold diesel engine no less than 6 times without recharging midway.

(2) Diesel engine started with electricity: Start the cold diesel engine no less than 10 times with sufficient power supply from the battery pack and no additional power supply midway.

(3) Emergency diesel generator: An automatic start test for the emergency generator set that automatically starts when the main generator is in a power outage state. During the experiment, record the time required from cutting off the main power supply to the automatic start and operation of the emergency generator. Capable of cold start in environmental conditions below 0 ℃. Each unit should be able to have energy for three consecutive starts. In addition, it should also have a secondary energy source that can start three times within 30 minutes.
