Navigation Mark Light

Navigation Mark Light

A navigation mark light is a type of traffic light installed on navigational aids. At night, it emits specified light colors and flashing frequencies, achieving designated angles of illumination and visibility distances. These lights guide vessels and aircraft traveling at night. A navigation mark light, encompassing aviation obstruction lights, marine lanterns, and landing aids lights, serves as a critical signal to guide and ensure safety for both air and sea navigation.

Overview

Navigation mark lights consist of three types: aviation obstruction lights, marine lanterns, and landing aids lights.

Aviation obstruction lights are typically placed on high-rise buildings or high points on ships, such as masts, to indicate obstacles to pilots. They usually use LED light sources and can be powered by solar energy.

Marine lanterns, often solar-powered, are installed on lighthouses, lightships, and buoys at sea to help ships determine their position and provide hazard warnings.

Landing aids lights come in various types, including platform edge lights, takeoff/landing lights, windsock lights, and commanding lights. These lights provide pilots and offshore platform workers with aircraft takeoff and landing signals and other guidance signals.
