Marine Vertical Capstan
A vertical capstan uses a vertical shaft with the motor and gearbox situated below the unit, usually below decks. The vertical capstan mainly used for mooring purpose. And it can be equipped with a chain wheel/sprocket/gypsy for anchoring.
Overview
A vertical capstan allows the machinery to be placed below decks, thus lowering the center of gravity. It also allows a flexible angle of pull so that the rope or chain can be run out to different fairleads.
