Marine Vertical Anchor Capstan
A marine vertical anchor capstan is primarily used to handle mooring and anchoring lines for securing the vessel to a dock or anchoring it in place. The rope or cable is wound around the capstan head (a drum) , and the electric or hydraulic motor is activated to haul in or release the line. The speed and length of rope can be controlled by control system effectively. During operation, safety measures such as brakes and emergency stop device are crucial to ensure that the capstan head or gypsy wheel can stop rotating quickly in case of an emergency.
Overview
The marine vertical anchor capstan is similar to the marine anchor windlass in operation and usage. When the load acting on the maximum effective diameter of the mooring drum of anchor capstan is 3 times the rated load, the maximum stress of the capstan and its supporting parts should not be greater than 90% of the yield limit of the material.
