Marine Contra-rotating Propeller Bow Thruster
The contra-rotating propeller bow thruster provides lateral thrust, allowing the vessel to move sideways without forward or backward movement. This capability is especially useful for docking, undocking and navigating in limited spaces. It ensures that the propeller diameter of the same power products is smaller and the thrust of a same diameter is larger. In this way, the thrust from right and left is basically the same. It can be powered by electric motors, hydraulic motors, or diesel engines. The choice of power source depends on the vessels’ design and operational requirements.
Feature:
Reduced vibration and noise
Higher efficiency
Large thrust
Compact and advance design
Enhanced control system
Overview
The side force or lateral thrust provided by the marine contra-rotating propeller bow thruster is to support mooring operations or dynamic positioning. The bow thruster can be used as auxiliary power for maneuvering operations, mainly for merchant ships to support port maneuvering operations and mooring operations. If the side thrust is used as part of a dynamic positioning (DP) system, its power should be selected according to the DP application level. It is equipped with a shaft seal device to prevent seawater and protect the steel shaft from seawater corrosion.
It can be applied to many types of ships, including merchant ships, cruise ships, offshore auxiliary vessels and offshore construction vessels.
