Maintenance of Rope Ladder
Rope ladders are best stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated cabin. Some ships' rope ladders need to be stored on deck, in which case they should be stored on appropriate plywood grating and should be covered. Rope ladders stored outdoors should be inspected more frequently to ensure they are in good condition.
Overview
1. The rope ladder should be stored at a height so that the rope ladder does not come into contact with the water on the deck, as the water may contain harmful substances.
2. If the storage temperature is below zero, the rope ladder must be completely thawed before use, because the frozen fiber rope is more likely to break.
3. Before storage, the rope ladder should be dried naturally, avoid using hot air blowers or drying devices. After drying, shake off any debris that may remain on the rope ladder.
4. Keep the rope ladder clean. If the rope ladder is dirty, rinse it with clean water. Do not use a high pressure water gun to clean the rope, as this can cause dirt or coarse sand to enter the fibers.
5. Avoid wear and tear. Bulwark, fishboards, deck edges, decks, and other surfaces that may come into contact with the rope ladder should be kept smooth.
6. Inspection often. It is recommended to carry out a comprehensive inspection at least once a month, and check the condition of the rope ladder with the naked eye before each use. The entire rope ladder, including all fixtures and fittings, should be inspected.
