How To Release a Davit-Launched Inflatable Liferaft?

A davit-launched liferaft requires a matched lowering and lifting device to turn it overboard on the boarding deck. People on board board the liferaft and then lower the liferaft into the water. This avoids the possibility of people in distress on board entering the water, and increases the safety guarantee of survival and rescue at sea.

Overview

1.Place liferaft close to davit. Remove portable rails adjacent to the davit on the ship side.

2.Open flap on raft valise and close slip-hook into ring/shackle.

3.Fasten the steering lines both forward and after of the liferaft.

4. Haul out and fasten about 10 mtrs of painter to a strong point on the ship.

5.Haul valise aloft and swing it outboard.Release/inflate raft by hauling out remaining painter.

6.Ease the raft off to deck-height. Haul taut the steering lines and fasten the boarding flap. Don’t forget to remove the lines when launching

7.Launch raft. Slip-hook to be released manually when raft is on surface of the sea. The raft is now free.

8.If there are any survivors floating in the water – rescue them by means of the rescue quoits provided.

9.When all persons are on board, haul in as much painter as possible and cut the painter using the knife provided on board the raft.

10.Shove away the liferaft from the danger area to safety and throw out the sea anchor.

Note: This davit launched liferaft can also be launched by throwing the same into the sea. In this case the painter must be fastened to a strong point on board the ship and instructions as given for“throw overboard” liferaft must be followed.
