Hemispherical Head

Hemispherical Head

Diameter (DN): from 20mm to 5000mm

Thickness (H): from 3mm to 200mm

Crown height: usually equal to half of the diameter

Tolerance: according to relevant standards

In addition, hemispherical heads are usually customized according to different needs and applications. Customers can order according to their needs and specify appropriate requirements such as materials, dimensions and tolerances.

Overview

Design:

Hemispherical Head refers to the head composed of half spherical shell and straight edge (short section of cylinder). The radius of curvature of the spherical shell is equal everywhere and the force is uniform. Compared with other heads, hemispherical head requires the smallest wall thickness when subjected to the same internal pressure. In the connection between spherical shell and cylinder of the same thickness, the edge stress caused by the change of radius of curvature is only 3.1% of the overall film stress of cylinder, which is negligible. So hemispherical head has the best mechanical properties and the most economical materials.

Hemispherical heads are usually manufactured using a cold stamping process, whereby the metal sheet is cold worked into shape. The selected materials are usually stainless steel 304, 316, 316L, 321 and so on. In the manufacturing process, the metal sheet needs to be sheared into suitable size first, then molded by cold pressing equipment, and finally subsequently processed by polishing, sandblasting and other surface treatment processes.
