Ballast Tank Air Vent Head

Ballast Tank Air Vent Head

Ships can be set up ballast tank, through the ballast water to adjust the floating state of the ship. Because these ballast tanks belong to a closed space, when the ship uses the bilge pump to produce pressure to inject or discharge ballast water, it is easy to cause the ballast tank overpressure or negative pressure, affected by the strength of the hull structure, the ballast tank can withstand limited pressure, especially in the negative pressure, generally can only withstand one atmosphere of negative pressure (0.1MPa). In order to protect the ballast tank structure, ships generally set up air pipes at the top of the ballast tank to provide air flow and maintain the balance of pressure inside and outside the tank. In the ballast tank, all kinds of oil tanks and fresh water tanks on the ship that need to fill and pump liquids will also be set up with air pipes. Therefore, the ballast tank air vent head becomes an essential device in the ballast tank.

Overview

Automatic closing device for air vent head

The air vent head on the ship is equipped with an automatic closing device, which can prevent seawater and foreign matter from entering the cabin. If the automatic closing device is missing, the air vent head will not be able to be switched on and off normally. In bad weather, such as large wind waves, heavy rain and surge waves, seawater will easily be poured into the cabin through the air vent, which will affect the integrity and stability of the ship, and even cause the ship to capsize in serious cases.

The common automatic closing devices of air pipe head mainly include floating disc type and floating ball type. The basic principle of these two types of automatic closing device is that in the case of water inlet of the closing device, the float ball or floating disc floats, and the sealing ring at the port position is coordinated to block the end water inlet and prevent water from entering the air vent through the end.
