ASME B16.5 Flanges
ASME B16.5 Flanges are divided into different types according to structural form, such as WN (Welding Neck), SO (Slip-On), BL (Blind), SW (Socket Weld), LJ (Lap-Joint), etc. They also include Ring-Type Joint (RTJ), which is used for sealing connection under high pressure and special working conditions. (Lap-Joint) and other different types, also includes Ring-Type Joint (RTJ), for high pressure and special conditions of sealing connections. The dimensions and tolerances of the flanges are specified in terms of outside diameter, inside diameter, thickness, location, number and size of bolt holes and other specific parameters. Strict tolerance ranges are also given.
Overview
Specific:
ASME B16.5 specifies the types of materials that should be used for flanges, such as carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel, and has specific requirements for the chemical composition and mechanical properties of each material. For special materials or environments, such as corrosion resistance or high temperature applications, compliance with additional standards such as ASTM A182 or other relevant material standards may be required.
The manufacturing and inspection process, including forging, heat treatment, machining, welding and other processes need to follow specific requirements. Flanges must be verified by non-destructive testing (e.g. ultrasonic flaw detection, magnetic particle flaw detection, etc.) to verify their internal quality before leaving the factory, and at the same time, they also have to undergo regular inspections such as appearance checking, size measurement, hardness testing, and so on.
Marking and certification, each flange produced in accordance with the ASME B16.5 standard needs to be clearly marked with the manufacturer's information, material grade, specification size, standard number and other relevant identification.
