The air pipe head is arranged on the upper part of the ballast tank, the isolation empty tank, the oil tank and other liquid tanks, and extends to the open deck, which can ensure the smooth entry and exit of the gas in the tank when the liquid is injected or discharged, and maintain the isobaric effect with the external atmosphere.

Rules for air pipe heads

(1) If the air pipe head of the ballast tank or other water tank extends above the freeboard deck or superstructure deck, the exposed portion thereof shall be structurally solid; The height from deck to the point at which water may enter below the mouth of the pipe head shall be at least 760mm on the freeboard deck and 450mm on the superstructure deck. If the above height is likely to interfere with work on board, a smaller height may be agreed upon, subject to confirmation that the closing device and its surroundings are acceptable for use.

(2) The air pipe mouth shall have a suitable closing device permanently attached to the pipe mouth, and the notice requires that the air pipe head should be equipped with an automatic closing device.

(3) Pressure vacuum valves (PV valves) can be used on liquid cargo ships.
