20Mn Marine Rudder Stock
The rudder stock connects the rudder blades to the steering gear and transmits the torque of steering. It is a robust and strong shaft that connects the rudder, which is installed in water, to the steering mechanism at the helm. The rudder stock transfers the steering commands from the helm to the rudder, allowing the ship to change direction.
Overview
The 20Mn marine rudder stock is made from carbon constructional structural steel. The 20Mn is a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel. Its strength, plasticity, machinability and hardenability are slightly higher than 15 steel because of its high manganese. When carburizing and quenching, the soft points formed on the surface are less, so it is suitable for heat treatment to obtain the comprehensive performance of wear-resistant surface and good toughness of the inner part. It also has a good tenacity after normalizing.
This 20Mn steel generally maintains good impact toughness, which can make the ship safe against the impact that may be suffered during the voyage.
